Bernard Jenkin, MP for Harwich and North Essex, has warned that thousands of children with autism in England are needlessly facing a future of mental health problems, because the NHS does not know how to help them. He is backing a new campaign by the National Autistic Society (NAS), You Need to Know, which aims to tackle an unfit mental health system that fails two-thirds of children with autism and often makes their mental health worse.

Bernard Jenkin, MP for North Essex, questioned the Environment Minister Huw Irranca-Davies MP on the floor of the House of Commons today. Mr Jenkin, who has been in regular contact with Mersea Oystermen over their concerns for marine life, was keen to receive specific assurances from the Minister that proper studies into a new power station’s potential effects on the Estuary would be properly explored.

Under fire from North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin, the Marine Environment Minister Huw Irranca-Davies MP, highlighted key provisions in the Marine and Coastal Access Bill which could help get the controversial fence on Mistley Quay removed. Highlighting a Sunday Times article from local environmental campaigner Charles Clover, who is also Chairman of the Dedham Vale Society, Mr Jenkin raised the issue in the final debate on the Coastal Access Bill before it becomes law. Mr Jenkin complained that it appeared it would do nothing to resolve the dispute about public access to Mistley Quay,

North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin, who is in Washington this week with the House of Commons Defence Select Committee, has been raising concerns about the President Obama's strategy in Afghanistan. Mr Jenkin expressed concern that Colchester's 16 Air Assault Brigade are likely to be deployed into a worsening situtation - much worse than last time.
