Bernard Jenkin, MP for North Essex, has reiterated his commitment to ensuring a potential new nuclear power station at Bradwell does not have a detrimental effect on the Blackwater Estuary.
Mr Jenkin said:
“I am in favour of nuclear power in principle, but not at the expense of our valuable marine environment. Mersea oystermen have raised their concerns with me that a new power station could raise temperatures and damage larvae.
“In my meeting with EDF, the Essex Wildlife Trust and the local oystermen in the summer, I sought assurances that the safety and preservation of the Estuary will be a priority for EDF.”
Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Climate Change and Energy, announced this week that Bradwell remains a possible site for a new nuclear power station. Natural England have told Mr Jenkin that they remain concerned about potential environmental impacts of a new power station at Bradwell and that they will be fully engaging with proposals.
